My name is Nathan Carter Johnson.
I am a 9th generation Tennessean, descendent of first landowners who settled in Middle Tennessee in the early 19th century. By trade, I am a Assistant Dean of Academics & Professor of Moral Philosophy at New College Franklin in Franklin, TN. By grace, I am a Christian, a “follower of the Way” as they used to say. By choice, I am a writer of trifles. By blissful providence, I am a husband to a graceful wife.
I hold a B.A. in English Literature and master’s degrees in Biblical Studies, Theological Studies, and Liberal Arts; and I’m currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Humanities.
This website is for trifles great and small: the microcosms of truth, goodness, and beauty through which we know, and live, and savor our being-in-the-world. It is for taking a line out for a walk. For chasing ideas down rabbit holes. For thinking and rethinking, expressing and reflecting, and for being mostly wrong about most things.
Welcome.
